Community Development: Our Inspired Examples

All of B3st’s students have their internship placements in Seville thanks to their places on the Level 3 award in European Community Development. The course is designed to equip professionals starting out on a career in the third sector with the knowledge necessary to work as effective members of a community development group. The course runs alongside their work placements, so they can learn the theoretical principles of community development practice whilst gaining practical skills and experience to bring that knowledge to life. As part of their course, each student has chosen a successful community development group to use a case study. They found these groups so inspirational that we dec

Adéla's Sunny South Coast Exploits!

Adéla Pokorná came to Brighton for a month with Natálie and four other young creative school-leavers from the Czech Republic, following their ambition to forge careers in graphic design, publishing or photography. Where's your internship based, and what does it involve? I work at a company called 360, who create graphic designs such as logos, banners, web designs, etc. My placement is in a graphic design company, and I’ve been working in a small team creating a new logo and design for a series of Volkswagon products. I’m enjoying getting to know the design process here from its beginnings with researching information and creating mood boards, to the culmination, which we are working towards

Natálie's Blast in Brighton

Natálie Tlustošová is from the Czech Republic and has spent a month living in Brighton working for a magazine as a graphic artist. She tells us about her experience in her work placement and how it's been to live in the quintessential seaside town! What are you doing in your internship? I’ve been working at BN1 magazine and Photo Atelier with Paul Noble. I’ve been given lots of variety of tasks at my workplace; I start at 10am each day, preparing my laptop and then asking for my assignment for that day. On a typical day, this might be to re-design product advertisements. I usually use two programs: Adobe Illustrator for graphics, and Adobe Photoshop to edit photos. At about 1 o clock we have

Dan's Days in Las Graveras (Seville!)

What’s your internship placement? My placement is in Environmental and outdoor education with Ecoeduca, which is an organisation that promotes environmental awareness among children and young people. I’m also helping to teach related subjects at a children’s academy, alongside my work with Ecoeduca. And how has it been? It’s been so enjoyable. Environmentalism is what I feel most passionate about, so this placement has been ideal. It’s a really social place – there are so many people working here, and they’re all really fun, helpful, welcoming and encouraging. I feel like I’m progressing loads - with my Spanish, and in developing my skills in educating people about environmental issues. I’ve

Hannah's Adventure

Hi Hannah! Let's jump straight in. What did you study at university, and why? I studied zoology at university because I loved biology in school, and I realised that zoology was a ‘fun’ science - I’m quite curious about the world around me and I think of this subject as science ‘with a face’. It’s easy to connect with and not as dry as I find some sciences. I wanted to invest in something I enjoy. What attracted you to this internship? I saw this internship posted online and the fact that it was in Spain got my attention first, because I’ve travelled a little in Spain already, and I wanted to learn the language to open up opportunities to travel with research. The fact that you are provided
